ShareStream’s Video Platform Is Now Integrated with CaptionSync, Automatic Sync Technologies’ Software Service for Closed Captioning

RESTON, Va.–ShareStream and Automatic Sync Technologies (AST) have partnered to integrate ShareStream’s Online Video Platform with CaptionSync, AST’s automated captioning service. The integration makes it easy for users to generate closed caption files for media assets stored in the ShareStream Platform. The availability of high-quality closed captioning is a key component in making online media accessible for users with disabilities.
Adoption of web video and audio content by educational institutions has grown dramatically in recent years, driven largely by the emergence of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and flipped classrooms, where streaming media plays an integral role in students’ online learning experiences. The ShareStream Platform is a turnkey system for uploading, transcoding, editing, storing, managing and delivering media, complete with digital rights management (DRM). It is designed expressly to fulfill increasing demand from universities and colleges for integrating video and other forms of digital media into online courses and campus communications. ShareStream can be implemented as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution or as an on-premises solution.

The ShareStream Platform’s integration with CaptionSync streamlines and automates the workflow for adding captions to universities’ and colleges’ rapidly expanding media collections. A user with the required privileges is able to seamlessly send a media asset stored in the system to CaptionSync, which generates closed captions, returns the caption file to the ShareStream Platform and associates it with the appropriate media asset in the system. Integration with CaptionSync enhances the ShareStream Platform’s “Add Captions” feature (which provides the capability to upload a local caption file for a media asset).
